SURFACE ACOUSTIC WAVE SCREENS
Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Touch Screens detect sound. Low frequency sound waves are generated and beamed across a sheet of glass. An array of reflectors along the sides of the screen directs the waves across the screen in fixed paths. Unblocked waves traverse the screen in a set amount of time. The touch of a finger absorbs a portion of a wave and slows it down. Receivers detect the resulting change in the signal. The controller analyzes the altered wave and plots the finger’s position.
The SAW panel is made entirely of glass, not easily worn polyester layers, and has excellent light transmission. SAW screens are recommended for public information kiosks, computer-based training or other high-traffic indoor environments as well as medical applications.
